What local SEO services UK businesses need

When someone searches “electrician near me” or “accountant in Paisley”, Google shows a map with three businesses before any normal results. Most clicks go there. Our local SEO services UK work is about getting your business into that map for the searches that matter to you.

Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. You can read how Google decides local rankings in its own help pages. We work on the parts you can control: relevance and prominence.

Whether you are looking for a local SEO company or a local SEO specialist, the work is the same: a strong Google Business Profile, correct listings and pages that match local searches. Good local SEO UK-wide follows Google’s rules, not shortcuts.

Our local SEO service, step by step

  1. Google Business Profile. Right categories, full services list, photos, regular posts and replies to every review.
  2. Citations. Your name, address and phone number the same on every major UK directory.
  3. Reviews. A simple, legal way to ask happy customers for Google reviews.
  4. Location content. Useful pages and sections about the areas you serve, not copy-and-paste town pages.
  5. Tracking. Where you appear on the map across your area, month by month.

How Google ranks local businesses

Google says local results are based mainly on three things:

Relevance

How well your Google Business Profile and website match the search. Accurate categories, a complete services list and pages that describe each service clearly all improve relevance.

Distance

How far your business is from the person searching, or from the place named in the search. You cannot change this, which is why we focus on the other two.

Prominence

How well known and trusted your business is: the number and quality of reviews, links and mentions from other websites, consistent listings and how well your website ranks generally.

Our local SEO services UK work improves relevance and prominence month by month, so you show up across a wider area around your base.

The Local Pack vs normal results

For most “near me” and “service plus town” searches, Google shows a map with three businesses, known as the Local Pack, above the normal website results. Below it are the organic results, where your website itself ranks.

The two are linked but not the same. Your Google Business Profile drives the map; your website drives the organic results and also supports the map by confirming what you do and where. Good local SEO services UK firms work on both together.

NAP stands for name, address and phone number. When these appear exactly the same on your website, Google Business Profile and trusted directories, Google is more confident your business is real and where you say it is. Small differences, such as an old phone number or “Ltd” on one listing and not another, weaken that confidence.

We audit your existing listings, fix mismatches and build new ones on the UK directories that matter: Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yell, Thomson Local, FreeIndex, Scoot and the relevant trade or professional register.

There is no magic number. What matters is having more recent, genuine reviews than the businesses you compete with on the map, a steady flow rather than a burst, and replies to every one. Reviews that mention the service and the area (“boiler repair in Paisley”) help Google understand what you do.

  • Ask at the right moment: just after a job is finished and the customer is happy.
  • Make it one tap: a short link straight to your review form.
  • Never offer anything in return unless you say so clearly, and never write or buy reviews. Both are banned under the UK’s Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.
  • Only send review requests to customers you have a genuine relationship with, and keep requests to one or two messages.

It is tempting to create a page for every town you serve with only the name changed. Google’s spam policies call these doorway pages, and they can harm the whole site.

We only build a separate area page when there is real search demand and something genuinely useful to say: local projects, travel times, area-specific services or prices. Otherwise, areas are covered as sections on one areas page, which is safer and often ranks better.

If customers visit your premises, your address is shown on Google Maps. If you travel to customers, such as trades or mobile services, Google asks you to hide the address and set a service area instead. A virtual office is not allowed either way. Getting this wrong is a common cause of suspended profiles, so we check it first.

We set this up correctly at the start of all local SEO services UK work.

We add LocalBusiness structured data to your website, including your business name, phone number, opening hours, the areas you serve and links to your official profiles. It helps Google connect your website, Google Business Profile and listings as one business.

When someone asks Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT or another assistant for “a good electrician in Glasgow”, the answer draws on the same signals: Google Business Profile details, reviews, listings and clear website content. Local SEO does not guarantee you are named, but a complete, consistent and well-reviewed business is far more likely to be.

  • Map rank grid: where you appear on the map across a grid of points around your area, not just from one spot.
  • Google Business Profile performance: calls, direction requests and website clicks from your profile.
  • Search Console and GA4: searches and enquiries from your website, tagged so we can see which came from your profile.

Trades such as plumbers, electricians, roofers and joiners; health businesses such as dentists, physios and clinics; professional firms such as accountants and solicitors; and local shops, cafés and salons. They share one thing: customers who search nearby and call quickly.

The work you have paid for stays: your profile, listings, pages and reviews. Positions can slowly slip if competitors keep working and you stop posting, collecting reviews and updating. Many clients drop to a lighter plan once they are well established rather than stopping completely.

Our local SEO services UK plans have no lock-in after the first three months.

  1. Google Business Profile verified, with the correct primary category and complete services.
  2. Address shown or hidden correctly, with an accurate service area.
  3. Name, address and phone number identical on the website and every listing.
  4. Listings on Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and key UK directories.
  5. A one-tap review link and a simple process to ask happy customers.
  6. Every review replied to.
  7. Website service pages that mention the areas you serve naturally.
  8. LocalBusiness schema on the website.
  9. Fast, mobile-friendly pages with a click-to-call button.
  10. Tracking for calls, directions and website clicks.

Plenty of local SEO can be done yourself: claiming your profile, filling every field, adding photos and asking for reviews. Where local SEO services UK agencies earn their fee is in the parts that take time and know-how: fixing inconsistent listings, building quality local links, writing location content that is not thin, technical fixes on the website, and tracking results properly. Many owners start DIY and bring in help when they want faster progress.

  • Trades: service-area set-up, job-type service lists and photo-rich posts of completed work.
  • Clinics and dentists: treatment lists, booking links and careful handling of reviews.
  • Accountants and solicitors: professional directories and trust signals.
  • Hospitality and retail: opening hours, menus or products, and “near me” visibility.

Google dominates, but not every customer uses it. iPhone users often search in Apple Maps, which draws on Apple Business Connect. Windows and Edge users may see Bing results, powered by Bing Places. Voice assistants and in-car systems use these sources too. Our local SEO services UK packages keep your details accurate on all three, so you are found wherever people search.

Useful local content gives Google more reasons to show you in an area: completed project write-ups with the town named, answers to questions local customers ask, and seasonal advice relevant to your trade. One genuinely useful local post is worth more than ten copied town pages.

  1. Will you work inside Google’s Business Profile guidelines, and how will you handle my address?
  2. Which directories will you list us on, and will we own the logins?
  3. How will you get reviews, and is your method legal under UK consumer law?
  4. How will you report calls and enquiries, not just rankings?
  5. What happens to our profile and listings if we stop?

Our local SEO services UK answers: yes, always; the trusted UK listings above, in your name; real customers only, with a one-tap link; GBP performance, GA4 and map grid reports; and everything stays yours.

Businesses with more than one branch need a verified Google Business Profile for each staffed location, consistent naming across them, one useful location page per branch with its own address, hours and team, and reviews collected for each location separately. Local SEO services UK firms with several sites should also check that each profile links to its own location page rather than the homepage.

Since April 2025, fake reviews and hidden incentives for reviews are banned in the UK under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act. We never write, buy or filter reviews. Local SEO services UK businesses benefit from most are the ones where the customer searches, calls and books within a day or two: trades, clinics, salons, accountants, solicitors, garages and shops. If people search “near me” for what you do, local SEO is usually the best place to start.

It is less useful if you only sell online across the whole country, or if almost all your work comes from referrals. In that case we will say so and point you to national SEO or something else entirely.

Our local SEO services UK clients get a map rank report each month, showing where they appear across their area rather than from one spot.
