What our SEO audit services check

Most SEO audit services hand you a 60-page export from a tool and leave you to work it out. Ours is different. We run the tools, then a person reads every result and turns it into a short list of fixes in the right order.

  • Technical health: crawling, indexing, broken links, redirects, duplicate pages, sitemap and robots file.
  • Speed and Core Web Vitals: how fast the site loads on a phone, and what is slowing it down.
  • On-page: titles, descriptions, headings and content on your most important pages.
  • Google Business Profile: categories, services, photos and consistency of your name, address and phone number.
  • Competitors: what the businesses above you are doing that you are not.

What are SEO audit services?

An SEO audit is a health check of your website from Google’s point of view. It looks at whether search engines can find and understand your pages, whether those pages match what people search for, and whether other websites trust you enough to send links and mentions your way.

The purpose is simple: find the problems that are holding your rankings and enquiries back, and put them in the order that will make the most difference. A good audit saves you money, because you fix the few things that matter instead of guessing.

Our SEO audit services are designed for small and medium-sized business websites, typically up to 100 pages, built on WordPress or similar platforms.

What a successful SEO audit looks like

You should finish an audit knowing three things:

  1. What is wrong, in plain English, with evidence such as a screenshot or a Search Console report.
  2. Why it matters: what it costs you in rankings, visitors or enquiries.
  3. What to do next: the exact fix, who should do it, and roughly how long it takes.

If an audit leaves you with a long list and no idea where to start, it has not done its job.

That is the standard we hold our SEO audit services to.

More detail

Technical SEO audit service, explained simply

The technical part of the audit answers one question: can Google find and understand your pages? If key pages are blocked, slow or duplicated, nothing else you do will work properly. We check this first and flag anything urgent at the top of the report.

You do not need to understand the technical terms. Every issue in the report has a plain-English explanation and the exact steps to fix it.

Crawling and indexing

We check Google Search Console’s page indexing report, your robots.txt file, XML sitemap, “noindex” tags and canonical tags, to make sure every important page can be found and is actually in Google’s index, and that junk pages are kept out.

Site structure and internal links

We map how pages link to each other, how many clicks key pages are from the homepage, and whether any pages are “orphans” with no links pointing to them.

Broken links, redirects and errors

404 errors, soft 404s, redirect chains and loops, and links pointing to pages that no longer exist.

Duplicate and thin content

The same content at several addresses, near-empty pages, tag and archive pages that dilute your site, and theme demo pages left behind after a build.

Core Web Vitals and mobile experience

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Interaction to Next Paint (INP) and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), using both real-user field data where Google has it and lab tests from PageSpeed Insights. We also check tap targets, font sizes and pop-ups on mobile.

Structured data

Whether your schema (Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, Article and so on) is present, valid in Google’s Rich Results Test, and accurate.

On-page elements

Title tags, meta descriptions, H1 and subheadings, image alt text, and keyword cannibalisation, where two of your own pages compete for the same search.

Content quality and E-E-A-T

Whether your key pages answer what searchers want, show real experience and expertise, and include trust signals such as named people, reviews and accurate contact details.

Backlink profile

How many sites link to you, how relevant and trustworthy they are, and whether there are spammy links worth watching. We only recommend Google’s disavow tool in rare cases.

Local SEO

Your Google Business Profile, categories, reviews, and whether your name, address and phone number (NAP) are consistent across directories. More on this in local SEO.

Tracking and security

Whether Google Analytics 4 and Search Console are set up and recording enquiries, and whether the whole site runs on HTTPS without mixed-content warnings.

Your report is a short document, usually 10 to 20 pages, not a 200-page export. It is structured like this:

  1. One-page summary: overall health, the three most important problems, and quick wins.
  2. Priority list: every issue marked urgent, important or nice to have.
  3. Issue cards: for each issue, what it is, where it happens, why it matters, how to fix it, and whether a developer is needed.
  4. Competitor snapshot: two or three businesses ranking above you and what they do differently.
  5. Next 90 days: a simple plan you can follow yourself or hand to someone else.
  1. Short brief. You tell us your main services, target areas and any recent changes, such as a redesign or a drop in traffic.
  2. Access. Optional read-only access to Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 makes the audit far more accurate.
  3. Crawl and data gathering. We crawl your site with Screaming Frog, pull Search Console and analytics data, run speed tests and check your backlink profile.
  4. Human analysis. A person reviews every finding, removes false alarms and decides the order of fixes.
  5. Report and call. You get the report within 5 working days and a 20-minute call to walk through it.
  6. Optional help with fixes. If you want us to do the work, we quote a fixed price for it.
  • Every 6 to 12 months for most small business sites.
  • Before and after a redesign or migration, so page addresses and rankings are protected.
  • After a sudden drop in traffic or enquiries.
  • After a major Google update if your positions changed noticeably.

Between audits, ongoing technical SEO work catches new problems as they appear.

Regular SEO audit services are the cheapest insurance against slow, unnoticed decline.

Most of the sites we audit run on WordPress, often built with Elementor or a similar page builder. These sites have their own common problems:

  • plugins that slow every page down, even where they are not used;
  • theme demo pages, sample posts and attachment pages left indexed;
  • several SEO plugins fighting each other, or none set up at all;
  • heavy page-builder settings that hurt Core Web Vitals on mobile.

Because we build and support WordPress sites every week, our fixes are specific: which setting, which plugin, which page.

Often, yes. Many fixes, such as rewriting titles, removing old pages or setting up a caching plugin, can be done by a confident site owner using our instructions. Others, such as redirect maps, structured data or speed work, are usually quicker for a developer. Every issue in the report says which is which.

If you would rather we handle it, ongoing work is part of our SEO packages, and speed problems can be fixed through our WordPress speed optimisation service.

Either way, our SEO audit services give you a clear starting point.

Free checkers are useful for a quick look, but they have limits: they cannot see your Search Console data, they flag issues that do not matter, and they do not know your business goals. Our SEO audit services combine the same tools with real data from your Google accounts and a person’s judgement, so the report tells you which three or four fixes will actually move enquiries.

  • Clarity: one prioritised list instead of conflicting advice from tools and forums.
  • Saved money: fix the few things that matter before paying for more content or links.
  • Protection: catch problems that could cost rankings, such as pages blocked by mistake.
  • A baseline: a clear “before” so you can measure what later work achieves.
  • Independence: an outside check on work done by a previous provider.
  1. Important pages set to “noindex” or missing from the sitemap after a redesign.
  2. Two or more pages targeting the same search, so neither ranks.
  3. Title tags that just say “Home” or the business name.
  4. Large, uncompressed images slowing every page on mobile.
  5. Old theme demo pages and attachment pages indexed by Google.
  6. Google Business Profile with the wrong primary category or an inconsistent phone number.
  7. Contact forms that no longer send enquiries.
  8. No Google Analytics 4 conversion tracking, so nobody knows what works.

For local businesses we add a local SEO audit: your Google Business Profile against Google’s guidelines, categories and services, review count and recency compared with the three businesses in the map results, and NAP consistency across UK directories. It shows exactly why competitors appear on the map and you do not. Ongoing work is part of local SEO.

After a traffic drop

We compare Search Console data before and after the drop, check for indexing changes, lost pages, Google updates and lost links, and tell you the most likely cause and what to do about it.

Before a redesign or migration

We record every page that brings traffic or links, so the new site keeps them. This is the single most valuable use of SEO audit services for a small business, because redesigns are where rankings are most often lost.

After buying an existing business or website

We check what you have bought: the site’s health, its links, any penalties or spam, and whether traffic figures you were shown are real.

When you are about to invest in SEO

Before you pay anyone for monthly SEO, an audit tells you what really needs doing, so you can judge whether a proposal is focused on the right work.

  • Fixing the issues (quoted separately, or done by you or your developer).
  • Sites over about 100 pages, online shops with large catalogues and multilingual sites (quoted individually).
  • Paid search (Google Ads) and social media audits.

Keeping the scope tight is how we keep the price fixed at £199.
